If you have missing or failing teeth a ‘full’ or ‘partial’ denture, depending on how many teeth need to be replaced, may be an option. Dentures differ from bridges because bridges are permanently adhered to neighbouring teeth, whereas dentures are fully removable. Full dentures are fitted when all of your teeth in one jaw have been removed. Advances in dental technology have meant that dentures can now be very comfortable and look incredibly natural.
At your dental consultation we will discuss with you all your options inwhich solution dental implants and bridges. These options may not be suitable, for example, if the bone in your jaw is not strong enough to support dental implants, or you have too few teeth remaining for bridges to work. On the other hand you may simply prefer the idea of dentures to the other treatment options.
The Treatment
Over the course of your appointments, we will carefully and gently carry out any treatment that may be needed to make your mouth healthy enough for dentures to be fitted. If your mouth is healthy to begin with and no extractions are necessary, we can take impressions at your first appointment.
These will be used to make a trial set of dentures that you will try on at your next appointment. Any amendments to the fit will be made and a careful note will be taken of any alterations in size or shape of your teeth will be made so that your final set of dentures will look entirely natural. At your final appointment, your bespoke dentures will be fitted and you will be given advice on how to take care of them.
Whilst dentures can last for many years if taken care of properly, with time they can become brittle and worn, and fit less securely than they once did. When you attend regularly for your examinations we will continually review your denture to ensure it fits you well.
If you are interested in dentures either as a replacement for an existing set, or believe that you will need dentures in the near future, please arrange an appointment to discuss all the available options.
